John Bradley Mitchell
General Manager, Chief Executive Officer and Director
John Bradley Mitchell is General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Quality Oil Tools LLC and he is a member of its Board of Directors. He is also President and Managing Director of Energia Tejas LLC and a Partner in Oceanautics LLC with Drew Sudduth, CFO of Quality Oil Tools LLC.
Mr. Mitchell previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Acute Technological Services, Inc., (“Acute”) a Houston-based, globally recognized, leader in welding engineering, project management, and critical path welding applications for drilling and production equipment with operations in Houston and Brazil. Acute provides engineering and welding support for critical, complex subsea component manufacturing and deepwater riser fabrication on a global basis. Under Mr. Mitchell’s direction, company tripled revenue and earnings as he led both organic growth of historical service line and expansions into new markets. He developed a strategic relationship with major coating contractor to gain entry into high production welding of double joints for land-based pipelines. Mr. Mitchell built mixture of key personnel and contractor services to limit fixed costs between projects. He negotiated a commercial alliance with Sumitomo Metals, Ltd. as the sole facility selected to create a reeled tubular product sold under the Sumitomo name. He added automated instrumentation tube bending capacity to service major OEM and EPC customers as integrated service to compliment specialty tube welding, doubling the capacity for instrumentation. During his tenure, Acute was involved in many high profile projects such as Thunder Horse (BP), and Perdido (Shell), Tahiti Spar (Chevron), Mad Dog (BP), Atlantis (BP), Mars (Shell), and numerous other deepwater projects in the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil and Africa.
Subsequent to his tenure at Acute, Mr. Mitchell founded Energia Tejas LLC (“ETL”), an oil company headquartered in Sugar Land, Texas. Mr. Mitchell led the company as an early mover in unconventional and conventional oil plays before divesting its operating interests to large operating companies. During this time, Mr. Mitchell has participated in the evaluation of a few hundred oil and gas ideas and prospects for discoveries and field extension opportunities.
Previously, Mr. Mitchell was a partner in the Houston based law firm of Roberts Markel, P.C., which he joined in 1993. There he built a business and commercial law practice that supported and oil service businesses oil and gas companies. Mr. Mitchell began his business and legal career in 1988 as an analyst with the Bank of New York.
Mr. Mitchell holds a JD from the University of Tulsa and a BA and an MA from the University of Delaware.
Andrew G. Sudduth
Chief Financial Officer and Director
Andrew G. Sudduth is Chief Financial Officer of Quality Oil Tools LLC and is a member of its Board of Directors. He is also President of Sudduth & Co. and a Partner in in Oceanautics LLC with Brad Mitchell, CEO of Quality Oil Tools LLC.
Mr. Sudduth's 21 years of investment, finance, and accounting experience has been focused on the energy industry, primarily deepwater and industrial services, including senior private investment positions with Growth Capital Partners, serving as a Managing Director of the firm's Southwest Mezzanine Investments II, L.P. (which invested in the management buyout of Acute Technological Services, Inc. in 2006 led by Mr. Mitchell) and Wolf Family Management I, L.P.; beginning with public accounting at Coopers & Lybrand L.L.P. in the firm's energy practice. He holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from the University of Mississippi and holds the Series 7, 63, and 79 securities licenses.
Gary L. Cryer
Founder, President and Director
Gary L. Cryer is the President of Quality Oil Tools LLC and a member of its Board of Directors.
Mr. Cryer established Quality Oil Tools in 2002 after more than two decades in pressure control and oilfield services. He focused on the safe, reliable manufacturing of quality equipment and drew on firsthand experience and broad expertise to build his company. Mr. Cryer’s continued vision for Quality is to supply high quality with unparalleled service. That Quality Creates Trust has been realized across the offshore drilling industry. In up markets and down markets, Mr. Cryer’s formula for success has remained same. Safely provide equipment of exceptional quality with a high level of service and deep subject matter expertise. He has continued to attract top talent to executed on his vision, manufacture, and service of high-quality pressure control equipment such as gate valves, check valves, and choke and kill manifolds used primarily by offshore drilling contractors and operators worldwide. To meet customer needs, Mr. Cryer has grown Quality’s offerings to include parts and services for remanufacturing, recertification, or repair. The company is an API 6A and API 16C certified facility with ISO 9001:2000 & ISO/TS29001 certification and ABS and ASME approved welding. It offers complete traceability of materials and parts for certification and recertification.
Prior to founding Quality, Mr. Cryer was a co-founder, Vice President, and Marketing Manager of Manifold Valve Services, Inc. He helped build that company into a premier manufacturer of valves, chokes, and panels, licensed by the American Petroleum Institute (API). After 12 years of compound growth, the company was acquired by T3 Energy Services Inc. in 2001. Previously, Mr. Cryer was responsible for sales and service at Foley Valve and Repair. Before that he held positions of increasing responsibility at SWECO including District Manger, Regional Manager, and Eastern US Operations Manager.
Mr. Cryer studied Mechanical Engineering at McNeese State University.
Mark R. Devall, P.E.
Chief Operating Officer
Mark R. Devall is the Chief Operating Officer of Quality Oil Tools LLC.
Mr. Devall was most recently Lead Welding Engineer, Global Subsea Hardware (GSH), for BP America Inc. From 2011 until taking a leadership role with Quality Oil Tools in July 2013, he participated in the safe design and quality build of subsea equipment. He was also primary source of technical expertise on welding within the GSH team. Mr. Devall’s responsibilities included compliance and quality of the welding specifications used by GSH delivery teams, design reviews to address welding specifications and fabrication requirements, as wells as the review and endorsement of construction plans, manufacturing procedures, weld maps, qualification tests and NDE procedures.
Prior to joining BP, Mr. Devall was a Sr. Welding Engineer with Acute Technological Services, Inc. (“Acute”) from 2003 to 2011. There his responsibilities included the financial and operational management of projects Acute executed for BP, Shell, Exxon, BHP, FMC, Cameron, GE, and numerous other major operating companies and equipment manufacturers. Mr. Devall managed the execution of flowline and SCR double jointing for several deepwater installations including BP Mardi Gras, BP Atlantis, BP Thunderhorse, and Shell Perdido. He was routinely engaged in the research, development, revision and execution of critical path and high fatigue welding procedures. Mr. Devall wrote, reviewed and updated customer specifications for compliance with API, AWS, ASME, NACE, DNV, and ISO codes and standards. With Acute, he also gained significant shop, field, offshore pipe-lay vessel, and production unit experience with SAW, SMAW, PAW, FCAW, GMAW, PGMAW, and GTAW manual, machine, and automatic orbital processes, as well as VT, PT, MT, RT, and UT NDE processes.
Previously Mr. Devall was a Sales Executive with Oerlikon Welding, Ltd., from 2001 to 2003. Before that, he was a Welding Engineer with Drill-Quip, Inc. Mr. Devall’s experience also includes: Applications Engineer, Air Liquide America Corporation; Intern – Arc Welding and Automation Group, Edison Welding Institute; Quality Control – New Boiler Construction and Welder/Pipe Fitter Harmony Corporation – Exxon Refinery of Baton Rogue.
Mr. Devall is a State of Texas registered Professional Engineer, P.E. Registration No. 98064, State of Ohio registered Professional Engineer, P.E. Registration No. 71002, and a Certified Welding Engineer of the American Welding Society, CWEng Cert. No. 0603001G. He is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE), Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and the American Welding Society (AWS).
Mr. Devall holds a BS in Welding Engineering and an MS in Welding Engineering from The Ohio State University.
Thomas J. Harrington
Vice President & Director of Business Development
Thomas J. Harrington is Vice President and Director of Business Development for Quality Oil Tools LLC.
Mr. Harrington joined Quality Oil Tools in 2014. He is a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers, International Association of Drilling Contractors, and the NOMADS of Houston Chapter. Mr. Harrington joined Quality Oil Tools’ executive team with 25 years in offshore drilling operations and offshore drilling equipment.
Mr. Harrington was most recently Global Sales Manager for Worldwide Oilfield Machine (“WOM”). Upon joining WOM in 2006, he began managing the international accounts associated with major shipyards throughout the world. Mr. Harrington worked directly with drilling contractors and their chosen shipyards in U.A.E., Korea, Singapore, and Brazil. His role in expanding global sales helped lead the growth of WOM from $60 million in annual sales to more than $250 million in annual sales.
Mr. Harrington entered the offshore drilling industry in 1981 with Rowan Drilling Company. His first assignment was aboard the Rowan Ft. Worth. He served in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico. In Mr. Harrington’s drilling career he worked aboard several rigs including the Arch Rowan, the Rowan California, and the Rowan Juneau. At Rowan, Mr. Harrington worked is way up to Driller from Roustabout and he has held nearly every position in between. Mr. Harrington’s tenure with Rowan provides critical, hands-on experience in offshore drilling and the use of well control equipment.
Mr. Harrington began his career with the U.S. Army in 1976. He served as an Artillery Repairman and Team Leader in support of the Vulcan Anti-Aircraft Weapon for G Co. 704th Maintenance Battalion
Susan Semmes is QHSE Manager for Quality Oil Tools LLC.
Ms. Semmes joined Quality Oil Tools in 2013. She is adept at ABS, API, DNV, and ISO quality requirements and procedures. Ms. Semmes joined Quality Oil Tools’ operation after seven years with National Oilwell Varco (NOV) (and its predecessor T3 Energy Services). Throughout her oilfield-equipment manufacturing career, she has continually been promoted to positions of greater responsibility.
Ms. Semmes was most recently a Corporate Quality Manager with NOV. There she was responsible for internal and external audits of NOV Mission facilities and suppliers and to maintain compliance with API and ISO quality programs. She provided support and QMS training to Facility Quality Supervisors and was responsible for process improvement. She reviewed customer PO’s and performed sales contract reviews to insure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
Sue also implemented training courses for Safety and Quality procedures. Prior to being promoted to Corporate Quality Manager, she was a Facility Quality Environmental and Safety Manager. Before that Sue was a Manufacturing Specialist responsible to review PO’s and create work orders to move projects through the manufacturing process.
Travis Moss, P.E.
Mr. Moss joined Quality Oil Tools in 2014. He brings twelve years of mechanical engineering design and management experience to Quality Oil Tools. He possesses a strong mechanical aptitude and values hands-on field experience. Mr. Moss joined Quality Oil Tools’ operation after eleven years with Smith-Blair.
Mr. Moss was most recently Product Engineer with Smith-Blair where he lead development and market launch of pipeline fittings including coordinating product designs, component sourcing, testing and manufacturing initiatives. He oversaw multiple product lines for pipe joining and repair solutions and took a lead role in the start-up of a manufacturing plant in China. Some his is responsibilities included development of concept designs, directing Quality Control personnel, approving prototype designs and the testing and evaluation of prototypes. Mr. Moss was awarded a patent for a new coupler design.
Mr. Moss was previously a Project Engineer with Porter Manufacturing Corporation. He created proposals for bids on US military ground support equipment. He created conceptual designs to meet military specifications, and conducted feasibility evaluations. Before that he was Designer, Project Manager with Lufkin Industries.
Mr. Moss is a Licensed Professional Engineer, and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Mr. Ventura joined the Quality Oil Tools LLC team in 2015 to enhance its engineering talent and meet customer demand for highly-engineered, critical path equipment and components to meet API 6A, 16C, and 17D standards such as subsea valves and actuators.
Mr. Ventura brings with him 14 years of experience as a Lead Mechanical Engineer with Worldwide Oilfield Machine Inc. (“WOM”) for 14 years. While at WOM he managed the engineering department dealing with API 6A, 16C, and 17D equipment. He also provided Engineering support in product conception, design and production to meet diverse project requirements for globally renowned customers, interfacing directly with Sales, Manufacturing, Offshore Service, Customers and Vendors on design specifications to meet their complex needs.
Mr. Ventura holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston.
Lastie W. “Billy” Benoit
Vice President of Operations
Lastie W. “Billy” Benoit is the Vice President of Operations of Quality Oil Tools LLC.
Mr. Benoit joined Quality Oil Tools in 2006. He brings 36 years experience in the design, manufacture, sales and service of oilfield pressure control equipment to Quality Oil Tools’ operations. Mr. Benoit joined the Company from Energy Equipment Corporation where he was Operations Manager from 1997 to 2006. He helped build that company into a premier manufacturer of valves, chokes, and panels, licensed by the American Petroleum Institute (API). They also offered equipment for subsea applications, temperature extremes, and highly corrosive and erosive environments. Their offerings included manufactured and sold oilfield pressure-control equipment, including gate valves, drilling and well-servicing chokes, choke and kill manifolds, control panels, and highly engineered subsea equipment. During Mr. Benoit’s tenure, EEC grew from $3 million $65 million in sales. EEC was acquired by T3 Energy Services, Inc. in October 2007.
Mr. Benoit began his career in oilfield equipment as a valve mechanic with Foley Valve Repair in 1977. He later joined Mr. Cryer at Manifold Valve Services, Inc. as a valve mechanic. From 1990 through 1997, Mr. Benoit held Inside Sales, Outside Sales and Repair Manager positions with Stewart and Stevenson.
Shane Hulin Mr. Hulin joined Quality Oil Tools in 2013. He brings fifteen years of mechanical design, customer service and sales experience to Quality Oil Tools. Mr. Hulin has been aboard numerous drilling rigs and relies on his hands-on field experience to support Quality Oil Tools’ customers. Mr. Hulin joined Quality Oil Tools’ operation after eight years with National Oilwell Varco (NOV).
Shane Hulin is member of Quality Oil Tools Inside Sales Team.
Mr. Hulin was most recently a Draftsman and Salesman with NOV. At NOV, he prepared choke and kill manifold drawings for sales quotations, prepared 2D drawings for manufacturing and was later promoted to Inside Sales. Previously, Mr. Hulin was Senior Draftsman with Cortec Fluid Control. There he created 3D models of production and drilling chokes, performed inspection and calibration, and participated in design of chokes and choke trims. Before that he was a Draftsman and Inspector with Manifold Valve Service where he created 2D drawings, inspected parts, and performed offshore and inland rig surveys.
Mr. Hulin holds and A.S. degree in Drafting from Sowela Technical Community College, Lake Charles, LA.
